[music |The Doors - Light My Fire]

Woken up at 7:30am by strong winds. Kept awake. Currently trying to find motivation to make strong cup of coffee and try to actually wake up to go with being upright. 4 hours sleep doesn't quite cut it.

Dwarf Fortress, time-sink of champions. [Aug. 25th, 2008|01:59 am]

[music |Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown]

DF has been occupying a lot of my time, and it's been great. Admittedly my marvelous outposts have been failing quite regularly (my last one suffered death-by-goblin-invasion, and before that it was death-by-demon-invasion), but the process up to that stage is great fun.

Anyway, I've discovered a new design aesthetic to aim for: Circles. (links to big screenshot)

[music |Buddy Holly - That'll Be The Day That I Die]

Walked into the kitchen with the lights out, and hit my head of the corner of a cupboard door. Now that the initial surprise has faded and the bleeding has (mostly) stopped, I've come to the decision that it hurts.

(from here)

Getting ready for my trip north, and I think experiencing a growing sense of panic about it. (At least I think it's panic that I'm feeling - never been good at working out what my emotions are at any given time)

Perhaps the start of a cold snap isn't the best time to get a short-short haircut. But at least I still have my beard to keep at least part of my head warm.

Despite the prosaic nature of scones, there's still something oddly luxurious about baking a batch and having some hot from the oven with a cup of coffee for breakfast.

[music |Barry Mann - Who Put The Bomp]

Well, I've replaced the motherboard in my machine with something a little less bargain-basement. Unfortunately, due to a comedy of errors (well, it has traces of amusement in hindsight), I've had to put 64-bit Vista on the machine, due to the driver cd not being in the box with the motherboard, and the shop being unable to find it. Of course XP wouldn't recognise the onboard sound or the network adapter, but Vista did. So I'm gritting my teeth against my irrational dislike for shiny slow Vista, and giving it a try - at least until I can get a copy of the driver cd to give XP another try.

Also visited a specialist at the hospital to see about getting my psoriasis seen to again - hopefully I'll be starting a course of UV treatment before too long.

Time to catch up on WoW though - spending so much of the day either out and about or muttering at the computer under my breath has cut into my 'quality time' quite a bit.

[music |Enya - I Want Tomorrow]

The new power supply for my computer arrived on Thursday (and installed flawlessly - always a good thing).

Since then I've been relaxing and enjoying the new features in WoW (v2.3 is awesome) and playing a lot of Meteos on the DS (who would have thought it - a match-3 puzzler you play with a touchscreen).

I'm also trying to get my weight back down, after having discovered a tendancy to binge when I have unallocated money to spend of junk food. I think it might be time to start saving for more computer upgrades (and I still have the washing machine to fix - which I think I'll just pay for from my benefit instead of getting an advance from Winz with ensuing paperwork).

Oh well, back to leveling my warrior (while listening to Enya on repeat).

Take down old right curtain.

Hang up new right curtain on the right-hand curtain rail.

Take down old left curtain (after neutralising resident spider).

Hang up old right curtain on the left-hand curtain rail.

Wonder why curtains don't match.

Headdesk.

(I blame being sick, which I've been informed by my doctor after an unpleasantly early appointment is probably a virus that I'll just have to suffer through. Yay me!)

The thing I dislike most about this time of year is... [Oct. 6th, 2007|12:40 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , ]
[mood | irritated]
[music |Jive Five - What Time Is It]

*achoo*

The hayfever.

In a more non-temporally specific dislike, I also take umbrage at my isp (Ihug) repeatedly failing to accurately measure my traffic usage. I've been capped this morning (at about 80gb this month by the online usage tracker) but Netlimiter (a program that logs internet data usage on the computer, and was suggested by Ihug's tech support after a previous complaint about usage discrepancies) shows only about 68gb used. It's beginning to look like I need to invest in a new isp (probably Xnet) once the annoyance of not getting all the usage I pay for overcomes the pain of paying a $99 disconnection fee.

As an aside, start-of-the-day webcomic browsing takes forever when you can only load one page at a time.

Hopefully I'll be getting my R4DS cartridge ordered this week and delivered before I pick up the one I have on layby on the 17th. (It's been a while since I've been quite this enthusiastic and/or impatient)

WoW is taking a slow turn atm, and will probably get slower now the guild I belong to has decided to stop doing guild Kara runs and concentrate on the 25-mans. It's beginning to look like I might need a new guild as well. Time to level a new character to 70, perhaps?

I'm slowing building up a new backlog of video to watch as well, having discovered the anime Bleach, another more widely known anime called Naruto, as well as the new season of US shows (CSI NY, NCIS, Bones, House, Stargate Atlantis, Heroes, Robot Chicken and the Bionic Woman).

Oh well, back to my internet browsing - although perhaps 'limping' is more accurate at the moment.

Your home is a

Philanthropic Gamer's Hideout

Your kitchen is stocked with chips, dips, and assorted caffeinated beverages. There's a pantry with emergency backup caffeinated beverages. You also have some breakfast cereals in there, but you haven't had breakfast since last Spring. Your master bedroom has blankets printed with images of Mario and Link. Your study includes unread copies of various gamer magazines, each purchased for the free demo CDs. One of your garages holds your collection of ferraris, and is measured in acreage.

Your home also includes a roost for griffons. You've never actually seen a griffon, but you keep the roost ready anyway. Your guests enjoy your collection of every console and associated game ever made. Except the Intellivision -- those controllers drive them NUTS. Outside is the moat that protects your home from goblin invaders and extended family.

Below is a snippet of the blueprints:
